About Elvirax

More than coffee. It's community, connection, and countless conversations.

Our Mission

To create a space where quality coffee meets genuine hospitality, where strangers become friends, and where every visit feels like coming home.

Back in 2018, when we first dreamed up Elvirax, Edmonton already had plenty of coffee shops. But we wanted to create something different—a place that felt like an extension of your living room, where the baristas know your name (and your order), and where the coffee is crafted with the same care you'd give to a gift for a dear friend.

Five years later, that vision has grown into something even more beautiful than we imagined. Elvirax has become a gathering place for students cramming for exams, entrepreneurs building the next big thing, book clubs debating plot twists, and neighbours catching up over lattes. It's where first dates turn into second ones, where job interviews lead to celebrations, and where lonely afternoons transform into meaningful connections.

Meet the Team

The people who make Elvirax feel like home

Maria Chen

Maria Chen

Co-Founder & Head Roaster

Maria's obsession with coffee started during a backpacking trip through Colombia. Now she's the wizard behind our signature blends and the most caffeinated person you'll ever meet.

David Thompson

David Thompson

Co-Founder & Operations

A former engineer who traded spreadsheets for espresso shots. David keeps the café running smoothly while perfecting his latte art (he's really good at swans now).

Sophie Lavoie

Sophie Lavoie

Head Barista

Sophie can remember your order after meeting you once. She's also our resident latte artist and has won three regional competitions (yes, those are real).

Part of the Neighbourhood

We don't just serve this community—we're shaped by it.

Since day one, we've been committed to being good neighbours. That means partnering with local suppliers (our milk comes from Vital Green Farms just outside the city), supporting Edmonton artists by showcasing their work on our walls, and giving back whenever we can.

Every month, $1 from each bag of beans sold goes to the Edmonton Food Bank. We host free community events, offer our space to local non-profits for meetings, and employ students from nearby schools. We've also partnered with the Indigenous-owned Nitânis Coffee Roasters for special seasonal blends that celebrate First Nations heritage.

This isn't marketing speak—it's just how we believe business should be done. We're grateful to call Edmonton home, and we hope you feel that gratitude every time you visit.
